Jujitsu evolved among the Samurai of feudal Japan as a way of defeating an armed and armoured opponent.

Utilising blocks, kicks and punches, holds, throws and joins locks to defeat an aggressor.

Jujitsu is a strong self defence art, but also a fantastic way of getting fit, to build confidence and is great fun.

Aikido was developed in the late 1920’s and is derived from the traditional art of jujitsu and specialises in throwing an attacker and controlling using joint locking, as such it forms a very effective self defence.

Aikido works through the application of technique rather than strength and so can be practised by anyone regardless of age, gender, size or physical ability.

EWF Martial Arts' self defence curriculum includes drills that emulate situations that we may find ourselves in, and covers how to diffuse arguments and resolve situations without conflict.

Along side Karate, Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts skills, EWF also covers a very powerful collection of strikes that are easy to learn and perform under pressure.

Judo, meaning "gentle way", was created in 1882, by Kano Jigoro. It is generally categorised as a modern martial art which later evolved into a combat and Olympic sport.


Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke.

Training is divided into three parts: Kihon (basics), Kata, and Kumite (sparring). Techniques are characterized by deep, long stances that provide stability, enable powerful movements and strengthen the legs.

Learning Karate will help develop a strong, positive character, teach courtesy and respect and develop a strong mind as well as a fit and strong body.

We show how to hold and carry a sword correctly, the stances to effect a move, the different cuts used by the Samurai as well as a number of kata (example moves) to master

We start of with a wooden bokken (training sword), then move onto a bokken with a Saya (sleeve) and then onto a real Katana.
